Packages & pricing

Wedding packages

Three packages, priced plainly. We would rather you know what a wedding here costs before you fall in love with the staircase.

Check your date Jump to pricing

Every package includes the use of the house's spaces, our own catering and bar staff, an on-site coordinator from our events team, linens, tables and chairs, and the full attention of a house that hosts only one wedding a day. Prices below are Saturday prices outside of October. Friday and Sunday weddings are 15% less. October Saturdays carry a 25% premium. All prices are before the 22% service charge and 7% Massachusetts meals tax, which are explained further down this page.

If none of these quite fits, tell us. We regularly adjust packages for couples who want a ceremony elsewhere and a reception here, a brunch wedding, or a longer evening. Wren will build you a written proposal within a week of your tour.

Elopement at Dusk

Up to 12 guests · $3,800

For two people, or two people and the few they cannot imagine doing this without. You marry at sunset on the widow's walk, where Abigail Crane once watched for her husband's ship, or in the garden if your guest list runs past six. Then there's champagne, an hour of portraits around the house, a long candlelit dinner in the Library, and a night in the Widow's Walk Suite with the lantern lit in the window.

Included

  • Sunset ceremony on the widow's walk (up to 6 people including the couple and officiant) or in the garden (up to 12 guests)
  • A licensed officiant from our approved list, including one planning call to shape your vows
  • One hour of photography with a house photographer, including the candlelit stair portrait if you would like it, and 75 or more edited images in an online gallery within four weeks
  • A bottle of champagne for every four guests, poured on the walk or in the garden after the vows
  • A private four-course dinner for up to 12 in the Library, cooked by Chef Dee Okafor, with a menu chosen together a month ahead
  • A small celebration cake or a plate of Dee's "Last Rites" chocolate pots de crème
  • A simple bouquet and boutonniere from our florist partner, in the colors of the season
  • One night in the Widow's Walk Suite, with breakfast in the Lantern Room or brought upstairs on a tray
  • Help filing for your Massachusetts marriage license (it must be obtained in person at a city or town clerk's office in advance)
  • Planning by email and phone with our events team

Wine and cocktails with dinner are billed on consumption, or add a two-hour wine pairing for $55 per guest. Additional guest rooms for your guests at regular room rates, subject to availability.

The Lantern

Up to 80 guests · from $18,500 (Saturday)

Our most popular package, and the one most couples picture when they first tour. You marry in the garden at the end of the afternoon, with the paths lined in lanterns, and then everyone walks a hundred feet into the Great Hall for a plated dinner, toasts and dancing beneath the old chapel's beams. Four hours, start to finish, which is the right length for a wedding of this size.

Included

  • Lantern-lit garden ceremony for up to 80 guests, with white garden chairs, the arbor and a rehearsal the day before (scheduled around other events)
  • Great Hall reception for up to 80 seated, with dance floor
  • Four-hour event, ceremony through last dance
  • Cocktail hour with four passed hors d'oeuvres (the smoked bluefish pâté on rye crisps is non-negotiable, in our opinion) and a New England cheese and charcuterie display
  • A three-course plated dinner with a choice of two mains plus a vegetarian option, chosen at a private tasting for four with Chef Dee and Theo
  • Four-hour bar package: house wines, two local beers, a zero-proof cocktail, and two signature cocktails from the Undertaker's Parlor list (or two of your own invention)
  • Champagne toast
  • Coffee, tea and cake service (cake from our pastry kitchen, or from an outside baker with the cutting fee below)
  • Tables, farmhouse or round, house chairs, ivory or slate linens and napkins, china, glassware and flatware
  • Candles for every table and window, and lanterns along the garden paths
  • An on-site coordinator from three hours before your ceremony until the last guest leaves
  • Two getting-ready rooms from noon on the wedding day
  • A courtesy room block of up to five rooms, held until 90 days before your date

The Grand Crane

Up to 140 guests · from $34,000 (Saturday) · whole-house buyout required

The whole house, the whole garden, and two whole nights. The Grand Crane is for couples who want a weekend rather than an evening: a tented reception in the garden for up to 140, every one of the inn's guest rooms for your family and wedding party, and the option of a rehearsal dinner the night before. Five hours of celebration, and when it is over, nobody has to find a ride home.

Included

  • Garden ceremony site for up to 140 guests (ceremony fee applies; see below)
  • A sailcloth-style tent on the lower lawn with dance floor, string lighting, and clear side panels in case of weather
  • Five-hour event, ceremony through last dance
  • Cocktail hour with six passed hors d'oeuvres and a raw bar of local oysters and shrimp (or a chowder station in cooler months)
  • A four-course dinner, plated or family-style, with a choice of three mains, chosen at a private tasting for six with Chef Dee and Theo
  • Five-hour premium bar package: an expanded wine list, local craft beers, three signature cocktails, a zero-proof cocktail and a sparkling wine toast
  • Late-night snack: brown-butter johnnycake sliders or a chowder-in-a-mug station
  • Coffee, tea, and cake service
  • All tables, house chairs, linens, china, glassware and flatware for the tent
  • Lanterns and candles throughout the house and garden
  • A lead coordinator and an assistant from the morning of the wedding through the last guest, plus a planning meeting at three months and a walk-through at four weeks
  • Exclusive use of the house on your wedding day: no other events, no outside diners in the Great Hall
  • Optional rehearsal dinner in the Great Hall (up to 80) or the Library (up to 14), priced separately from $95 per guest
  • Farewell breakfast in the Lantern Room for overnight guests, included with your room buyout

Room buyout: The Grand Crane requires booking all nine guest rooms for two consecutive nights, typically Friday and Saturday. Rooms are billed separately at the inn's published nightly rates for your dates, less 10%, and you may charge them to your guests or cover them yourselves. A deposit of one night's total is due with your wedding deposit.

Pricing by day of week

Our Saturday price is the base price. Fridays and Sundays (and Sundays of holiday weekends) are 15% less. October Saturdays carry a 25% premium and are usually booked 18 to 24 months in advance; October Fridays and Sundays are priced at the standard Saturday rate. Weddings Monday through Thursday are by special arrangement and priced as Friday and Sunday.

Service charge and tax

A 22% service charge is added to all food, beverage, package and event fees. This is an administrative charge that covers the staffing of your event; it is not a gratuity, and a portion is not distributed to staff as tips. Many couples choose to leave an additional gratuity for their servers, bartenders and coordinator, and while it is entirely optional, it is always gratefully received. Massachusetts and local meals tax of 7% is applied to food, beverage and the service charge. Room charges carry the state and local room occupancy tax.

A rough way to estimate: take the package price, add your extras, multiply by about 1.31, and you will be within a few hundred dollars of your final bill.

Payment schedule

  1. To hold your date

A signed contract and a non-refundable deposit of 30% of your estimated total. For the Grand Crane, one night's room buyout is due at the same time. We do not hold dates without a deposit, though we will pencil one in for seven days after a tour.

  2. Six months before

A second payment bringing you to 60% of your estimated total. If you are booking within six months of your date, the first two payments are combined.

  3. Three months before

Menu, bar and timeline finalized; tasting completed. No payment due, but this is when the wedding becomes real on paper.

  4. 21 days before

Final guest count and seating plan due. Your count may go up after this, space permitting, but it may not go down.

  5. 14 days before

The remaining balance, based on your final count and approved extras, is due by check or bank transfer. Card payments carry a 3% processing fee.

  6. After the wedding

Any on-site additions, such as bar extensions or extra hours, are invoiced within a week and charged to the card on file.

If you must cancel, deposits are non-refundable, but we will apply payments beyond the deposit to a new date within 12 months if one can be found, and refund them in full if we are able to rebook your original date with another wedding of similar value. Full terms are in your contract, and Wren is happy to walk through them on the phone before you sign. Questions? Read the wedding FAQ.
